这个夏天，所有有关佛罗伦萨的新闻都聚焦在吉拉的到来和穆图的续约身上，有一个球员却被忽视了--这也是普兰德利希望看到的。已经为国效力的黑山射手斯蒂文*约维迪奇在佛罗伦斯过的很好。笔者认为这位年轻人（幼齿）有机会成为意甲的惊喜，弗兰基的可爱英雄和紫百合的秘密武器。

Montenegrin striker Stevan Jovetic, already an established international, has settled well in Florence and I have a feeling the teenager could be the break out star in Serie A this term, a new cult hero at the Artemio Franchi and the Viola's secret weapon.

The youngster doesn't turn 19 until November but has already captained Partizan Belgrade, for whom he netted 18 goals last season, and represented his nation at both full and Under-21 level. With a UEFA Cup hat-trick for Partizan when he was just 17 he has certainly proven that he has the ability to perform at the top level. But life in Serie A demands players excel at an elite level so it will be a delight to see if he is capable of reproducing his net-busting ways in the early encounters.

If he does pick up where he left off in the Serbian Superliga it will be to the benefit of Fiorentina and to the detriment of their Scudetto-chasing opponents. The grudge match between the Gigliati and Juventus on Sunday night would be the perfect occasion for him to formally introduce himself to the Italian public - and given his track record so far in his career you wouldn't bet against him showing that he has more in common with Gabriel Batistuta than just his hair.

But there is a broader danger posed by Jovetic. On the international stage he will be part of Zoran Filipovic's Montenegro squad when the newly-independent state arrive on the peninsula for the World Cup qualifier in October. In last week's friendly against Hungary the mop-topped marauder bagged himself a brace, and could have claimed a hat-trick but for a deflection. The Serie A field and Marcello Lippi have been warned - beware of Jovetic!

It is easy to laugh off Mutu’s lawyers as being the usual slimy legal team trying to find any loophole to get their client out of trouble. The term “racial discrimination” is bandied about too often by people who just want an excuse, which unfortunately means those truly discriminated against are ignored. In this case I wouldn’t go so far as to call it that, but the Romanian most definitely has a point.

Let’s look at it this way – what exactly did he do to warrant the sacking and therefore the fine? Mutu indulged in some social drug-taking after falling in with the wrong crowd, hence failing a doping test. He immediately quit, sought help and is now a reformed character.

You’d think he was the kind of person the Sporting Chance clinic had been created for, a place to give addicts the opportunity to address their social problems and the way they affect their careers. So why was Mutu treated like a hard-nosed criminal and fined £13m when his club gave up on him at the first attempt? He failed a drugs test, but it was not for a performance-enhancing substance, it was a personal problem he was dealing with. Its effect on his football was secondary and we’ve all seen how much he has improved with this new found focus in Italy.

Here is where I think the incredible hypocrisy over Mutu’s case comes in. Compare him to Joey Barton. This young man, who at 25 ought to know a lot better, during his time at Manchester City was fined only £60,000 for stubbing a lit cigar out in a youth player’s eye. He was kept on after assaulting a 15-year-old Everton fan, fined £120,000 and sent to the Sporting Chance clinic for help. He wasn’t even sacked after beating teammate Ousmane Dabo in a vicious training ground assault for which he was sentenced to a four-month suspended prison sentence. The fine? £100,000 and Dabo was the one who left the club.

Barton was given a six-month prison stint for a series of assaults and still everyone is flocking to help this poor English boy who really only needs a bit of guidance and support from the football community. What did Mutu need?
