Juan Manuel Vargas has announced that he will be joining Fiorentina after all, even though he has yet to put pen to paper and sign for the club.
La Viola have always claimed that they had struck a deal with Catania for the Peruvian star, beating off competition from Real Madrid in the process.
Vargas is likely to sign with the Artemio Franchi based club within the next few days and he has already spoken of his ambition for the season ahead.
“I go to Florence with the best hopes and expectations,” Vargas told RPP.
“I really hope that everything turns out well with my new team and I hoping to do even better than what I did with Catania.”
The versatile midfielder was influential for the Sicilian side last term and his brilliance on the pitch went towards helping the Elefanti escape what seemed like certain relegation on the final day of the season.
It has been reported that the player has agreed a five year deal and the club are expected to make the move official imminently.
