According to reports in Portugal, Fiorentina have struck a £7.5m deal for Benfica centre-back Luisao.
The Viola had confirmed they were interested in the Brazilian defender, but up until now negotiations had hit a brick wall.
Today Portuguese newspaper ‘Record’ maintains the two clubs have reached an agreement worth around £7.5m.
Benfica were hoping for as much as £22m, but are struggling with debts and need to bring in fresh funds quickly.
Fiorentina have the money to invest after selling Felipe Melo to Juventus for £21.5m and Marco Marchionni.
Luisao is not their only target for the back line, as talks are also on-going with Arsenal over Emmanuel Ebouè.
It is also true that other clubs are tracking the Brazilian, such as Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen.

Genoa have confirmed that “only details” separate them from signing young Spanish midfielder Alberto Zapater.
“We have a deal with the player and only details separate us from completing the transfer, so I really don’t think this could collapse,” President Enrico Preziosi told Sky Italia television.
The 24-year-old currently plays for Real Zaragoza and has featured at Under-20 and Under-21 level for Spain.
“He is an important player, though I don’t believe he is the new Thiago Motta, as they are different players. He can do very well with Houssine Kharja.
“Zapater’s contract was set to expire, which is why we managed to pay less for him than his true value.”
Genoa have made many changes to their squad, as Diego Milito, Thiago Motta and Matteo Ferrari left, but Rodrigo Palacio, Sergio Floccari, Hernan Crespo, Pepe, Emiliano Moretti and Kharja are just some of the new entries.
“In terms of quality and strength in depth I’d say we are stronger than last season, so we hope to stay at the same high level,” added Preziosi.
