Marotta Happy About Pazzini's Arrival At Sampdoria
Sampdoria's sporting director Beppe Marotta talked about surprise signing Giampaolo Pazzini, who joined the club from Fiorentina today.
Sampdoria manager Beppe Marotta is a satisfied man today. After it seemed that the Doriani would not make any investments in the January transfer window, they have acquired the services of striker Giampaolo Pazzini, who wasn't getting much playing time at Fiorentina.
"We are happy about Pazzini's arrival," he said. "This is an important investment for Sampdoria, we are aware we have made a wise choice also from an economic point of view."
Asked if Pazzini's arrival means Cassano will leave either in January or next summer, Marotta said: "Our intention is to keep him with us, we have a long contract with him, so I think that the Pazzini-Cassano couple can represent the present and the future. And let's not forget about another player who has given a lot to Sampdoria, [Claudio] Bellucci.
"The competitions we are involved in this season are the Uefa Cup, the Coppa Italia, and the Serie A, so obviously it was indispensable to get some reinforcements."
On the rumours surrounding Cassano's future, he continued: "There has been no contact about him with any team. In the end the player's will usually matters most, so Cassano will have to evaluate at the right moment whether to stay with us or go to another club.
"From our point of view it would make us proud to keep Cassano in the future, even though the future also often depends on the player."
