FIORENTINA, Zauri Cries Foul On Lyon Equalizer Fiorentina defender Luciano Zauri claims he was fouled in the build-up to Lyon's first goal in the 2-2 draw at the Stade Gerland...
Fiorentina had a 2-0 lead in Lyon, courtesy of two headers by Alberto Gilardino. The second half saw a Lyon comeback, but Luciano Zauri insists it was not deserved.
"The referee told me he did not see me on the ground," recalled the former Lazio wing-back.
Zauri picked up a knock just before Lyon scored through Frederic Piquionne and believes the goal should not have stood. Zauri was injured on the ground and kept the Lyon forward onside as he scored the goal to begin the comeback. He then had to be substituted off for Martin Jorgensen as he could not continue.
"To tell the truth I'm not entirely sure what happened. There was a cross, I turned and there was a Lyon player on me - I felt a blow to my head. When I opened my eyes I did not understand where I was," explained Zauri.
Zauri will now have some tests tomorrow to assess his head injury. However, his statements echo those of Gilardino, who claimed that Lyon were unsporting in their comeback and played "anti-football".
