Fiorentina and Italy stopper Alessandro Gamberini admits that getting through the Champions League group stages would be like winning it.
La Viola face a tough group with Bayern Munich, Lyon and Steaua Bucharest ready to spoil the party. Expectations are high at the Artemio Franchi but Gamberini insists his side need to keep their feet on the ground or they could land with a nasty bump.
“The Champions League and Scudetto are a utopia for us and it would be a success if we get through the group stages. We must not get too carried away,” said the defender.
Gamberini then spoke of Sunday night’s last gasp draw against Juventus and he insists it was a fair result.
“Juventus? It was a right result and I wasn’t surprised to see Alberto Gilardino score,” added Gamberini.
The Italian has been outstanding and he has been rewarded with a call up to La Nazionale by Marcello Lippi. Italy begin their World Cup qualifying campaign on Saturday when they clash with Cyprus.
