Fiorentina striker Giampaolo Pazzini insists that he never thought about leaving this summer, despite rumours in the press that he would be sold.
Around a year ago, Pazzini was regarded as one of Italy’s best young strikers, however his career has stagnated somewhat following a disappointing 2007/08 season.
Following Fiorentina’s summer signings of Alberto Gilardino and Stevan Jovetic, plus the presence of Adrian Mutu and Pablo Osvaldo, there were strong reports in the press that there was no room for Pazzini and he would be sold.
The 24-year-old was linked with a move to Sampdoria, but in the end he stayed in Florence, and he insists he never considered leaving.
“I never spoke about a future away from Florence,” Pazzini explained after scoring in the friendly match against Barcelona last night.
“The goal and the warmth of the fans showed me once again how much they believe in me.”
Fiorentina lost to the Spanish giants 3-1, but Pazzini was clearly buzzing at the end of the 90 minutes.
“That goal helped my morale, even if it came in a kind of friendly,” he enthused.
“To play in front of 40,000 people and against a team of that quality is never easy and if you manage to score it can only be pleasing.
“I really enjoyed playing alongside Osvaldo and Jovetic in attack in the second half.”
