This encounter brought together the newly promoted Chievo Verona and Serie A outside favourites Fiorentina in a match in which both teams desperately needed to get points.
Constant pressure from the Viola away to Chievo Verona paid off with a goal in the 32nd minute of the first half from Zdravko Kuzmanović opening the scoring, and a second in the 74’ minute from Fiorentina’s man of the moment Alberto Gilardino assuring Fiorentina of all three points at the Bentegodi stadium with a 2-0 win over the Flying Donkeys.
Prandelli commented after the match, “I asked the team to be faster and more concentrated. Gilardino has the right motivation to work hard, as does the team. We were criticised for not attacking on the wings. The reality is that we need to be more of a team and find more continuity.”
Prandelli’s first three points away from home will give the Viola confidence in the league, after the team were expected to be a surprise package that would fight for the Scudetto, and despite a shaky start Fiorentina may be able to uphold that tag in the months to come with good away wins such as these.
