Lyon Goal Was Legitimate - Frey
Fiorentina goalkeeper Sebastian Frey believes Lyon’s first goal against them was right to have stood despite controversial circumstances.
The Viola were leading 2-0 at the Stade Gerland before Lyon clawed their way back into the game to draw 2-2 as a result of some poor decisions.
The French side pulled one back in controversial fashion while Luciano Zauri was down with a head injury in the box but Claude Puel’s men ignored him and unsportingly went on to score rather than put the ball out of play.
Five minutes before time Karim Benzema stole a point.
The Viola were furious after the game and accused the French side of ‘cheating’.
However Frey doesn’t agree and he believes the goal was legitimate.
“Lyon’s first goal? It was valid,” said Frey.
“It was a shame though that they got back into the game in the way they did.
“However, the goal was completely valid. The referee should have stopped the game but he didn’t.
“Nevertheless, Fiorentina played a great match and we would have taken a draw at the Gerland before the kick off anyway.”
